My dear Mother is usually a "woman of few words." She became a widow almost 3 years ago, and has experienced the woes of being alone, as has anyone who has been single any length of time. Yesterday, I received one of the most heartfelt letters from her that I've ever received, and I'd like to share it with all my friends here, space permitting.
"What better time to tell my family how much I appreciate you all--than Thanksgiving time. I'm so thankful for the loving support you have given me since your father and grandfather went home to be with Jesus. I thank God daily for each one of you in my prayers. It is so strengthening and comforting to feel the love and concern from everyone. It takes much love for you to take me into your homes and lives each summer. (Lord willing, I will have my own home before next summer.) You have done so much for me, and indeed this includes the daughters-in-law and sons-in-law. Thank you and thank you again. I know a lady that goes to my church, has four children & they have no relationship with her.She receives no phonecalls, letters, or cards.She is a widow & truly alone.This really makes me thankful for my loving family. It was so important in the Old Testament for people to be thankful & praise God; and when they "forgot" this important part of life, He was not pleased. He disciplined them harshly for being ungrateful.
Does this sound like God is "egocentric?" No, this is one of His attributes. He loves to be praised & loved & thanked! That's why we have Praise & Worship time in church. Much of scripture is "thanking God"...such as the Psalms, etc. After Jesus healed the lepers and only one came back to thank Him, He said, "Where are the others?" So even Jesus desired to be thanked.
As I was thinking about Thanksgiving this year, something came to my mind, on the "other side of the coin." If God desires our thanks, I believe He desires that we be more appreciative of one another, also. A "Thank you" is so important, for thoughtfulness, words of encouragement, gifts, cards,phonecalls, etc. This is such a BUSY life for everyone! Now that I'm alone, I have more time to ponder life, much of it gone. We forget to take time for these important matters. That's why I'm writing this lengthy epistle. I love each one of you very much, and want you to know how much you ARE appreciated. You really ARE my legacy. And this is the way I feel toward my "family" of brothers and sisters at Shining Star Christian Singles aka; Christian Singles Dating dot com. You have become my family. I love and appreciate each and every one of you. And I'm so thankful that I now have someone to talk to after a hard day at work, instead of having no one to come home to. You are loved. Each and every one of you! And I love the fact that there are no denominational walls separating us from being friends. Have a thankFULL Thanksgiving, every one! And special thanks to Nannette & Larry Thacker for providing this site. It may be for profit, but the eternal profit knows no bounds! It is also a wonderful ministry that you provide. We are blessed thanks to you two! May God richly bless you both!
